Driving vs. Biking to work

The weather has improved, so I've started to ride my bike to work again. Now, I live extremely close to work, so I don't feel like I'm saving very much by riding my bike to work.

The biggest saving is going to be parking fees, which come to $60/month.

Gas
Round-trip is about 3 miles
22 work days in April
15 miles per gallon (for city)
about $3.50/gallon
I would have spent about $15.40 on gas.

I save about $75.40/month by riding my bike to work.

Ugh, with gas prices going up again, I'm rather jealous! My idea of a bike, though, is one with a nice motor attached to it... Still more economical than a car! (I don't exactly live close to where I go to work or school either, but my hubby might get a bike this summer since we live two miles or so from where he works.)

Not only does it save gas, but there's less wear and tear on the car, making it last longer. Plus less chance of getting into an expensive accident.

Your lucky you can bike to work! I have to go so many places and so many miles between that the only bike that would ever work for me is a motorcycle, lol.

mrs. micah, good call! However, I think it's going to go to loosening my budget. I've been feeling really strapped recently.

foxie, I didn't even want to think about the wear and tear on the car because I have idea how to calculate it for my old car!

canadian saver & paradigmshifted, the ride isn't very long (1.5 miles), so I don't think it actually counts as exercise!

piggybankblues, I will admit that there are some areas that I get a little nervous. Now that the weather is getting warmer, more people are biking, so it's much safer!

highclasslowincome, There are days that I have to travel about 10 miles away...so I just ride my bike home and get my car. However, I enjoy the short trips between buildings (about 1 mile)...plus I get there faster on my bike, so my boss doesn't care (plus he's secretly jealous that he can't ride his bike to work).
