Christmas Gifts

Since my budget is limited for Christmas gifts this year, I'm going to have to be a little more creative than I have in the past.

  • Dad - T-shirt from my school. He's wanted one for a while. I purchased it with a rebate from purchasing my books. I'm also looking to get him a book or something.
  • Mom - I'm thinking about getting her a framed picture from Sister 1's wedding. We haven't had a family picture taken in a while, so I thought it would be something different.
  • Sister 1 - ?
  • Sister 2 - ?
  • Sister 1's husband - ?
  • Grandma - ?
  • Boyfriend - ?
Any creative ideas?

Update - Sense To Dollars asked me about my family's hobbies in order to give better recommendations.

My dad is really into sports...

and so is my sister's husband. My sister's husband also really likes video games. I gave him one of the Call of Duty games last year.

Sister 1 runs a little bit, has a golden retriever, and is just starting to cook. She's also trying to become more frugal, which is awesome!

Sister 2 is still in college...and I think she really just likes to party.

Grandma likes to cook and clean. She still lives alone and maintains almost an acre of property. She is coming down south for the winter, so I could get her something (a ticket, a gift certificate, etc) to a place down here.

Mom always asks for the most boring things. This year she asked for hand towels (sister 1 already bought them). In the past I have purchased skin care products (masks, moisturizers, etc), underwear (yep, we switched my mom out of grannie panties), and books (she LOVES to read). I would normally buy her a book, but she reads SO much it is impossible to know what she's read.

Have you thought about making them anything? I'm planning to make an end table for my mom this year. The monetary investment is roughly $50-75 but her knowledge that I spent the time on it is worth more.

Girl, it's OCTOBER!!

:) .. That's the good thing about being a minimalist. I get to take people out to dinner & coffee, but I don't get presents nor do I give them

I'll rack my brain to try and think up some cool gifts

Tim, I can knit, but I don't have any other skills!

FB, I can't even take my family out to a meal because I live so far away and see them to rarely!

I'm planning ahead because I'm extremely busy until Christmas. I figure if I start thinking about it now, then I will be able to order everything online and have it in time for the holidays.

Do any of them have amazon wishlists? That could also help 'cause you'd know that it would be available for ordering online. :)

It's hard to know what to get people unless you know their hobbies. can you tell us more about your family and what they are into?

Sense, no Amazon wishlists! I did update the post with hobbies. The Johnny Light is hilarious!

Steve2007, Thanks for the tip! I might consider one of those for my sister!

Our moms may be the same person. Seriously, what is up with the hand towels? and why does she need them every year?! along the same vein, my dad always asks for socks. man, talk about boring!

my parents won't give me any ideas for Christmas this year--they say, "we just want you home. if we can't have that, just send us a card with a picture of you." (I'm not coming home this year for the first time ever. they are really bummed.)

anyway, i'll have a think and let you know if i come up with anything good for our reading, hand towel destroying moms! (and the rest of the fam) :)

Oh, just thought of this: for the beginning cook, i've heard GREAT things about mark bittman's 'how to cook anything' (or maybe it's 'everything' -- i can't remember exactly). supposedly it's awesome.

Do you know what your Christmas gift budget is yet? Have you thought of doing a Kris Kringle? Some people don't like them - see http://tinyurl.com/nbmuva
